I had good intentions. I went to the store to buy ingredients for last week's Guinness, Jameson Whiskey, and Bailey's Irish Cream Recipe.
The problem was, I didn’t exactly know how much Baileys to get, so faced with spending $40 on a massive bottle I wasn’t sure I’d ever use, I grabbed ten of those little airline bottles worth and brought them home.
Needless to say, the cupcake recipe went really really well, but now I had Bailey’s leftovers, as well as one of the worst colds I’ve had in a very long time.
Considering this post is for St. Patrick's day, it’s a fine time to try out a drink recipe! While hopped up on Dayquil and snooping around Pinterest I found a link that went to another link which eventually led to the Baileys website with a recipe for a basic Baileys Martini!
It’s simple enough with only two ingredients:
1.) 2oz of Baileys Original Irish Cream
2.) 0.25oz of Smirnoff Vodka
The only other thing that would be good to have is a shaker. Even if you don’t know how to use one, I think it’s always nice to have one to complete your at-home bar. It makes it “look” like you know what you’re doing even if all you do is use a bottle opener to have a beer…and so long as no one asks you to make them a drink, your secret is safe with me.
The directions are easy too, which is what I needed in my watery-eyed, red-nosed state. Just fill your shaker with ice, add the Irish Cream and Vodka and then shake it!
Pour it into a martini glass. Now I like embellishments so I also added some of the green sprinkles and shamrocks I also had left over from last week's cupcake recipe!
The verdict: While this didn’t clear my sinuses, it was DELICIOUS and possibly my new favorite drink! I’ve had baileys straight, and I’ve had vodka straight, and I always found it way too astringent but the combination of them both made it go down smooth. In my humble opinion, it would be a wonderful option if you’re throwing your own St. Patrick's day party, and may I just say…they go great with cupcakes!!!
